‘Seclusion’ Jason Mccreadie. 2022. Acrylic. 40 x 50cm.
As the lockdowns began, Sarah felt a sense of isolation wash over her. She had always been a social butterfly, always out and about with friends and family, but now she was confined to her small apartment. At first, she tried to make the best of it. She would video chat with her loved ones, and even started a book club with some of her closest friends. But as the weeks turned into months, the excitement and novelty of it all started to wear off.
She found herself spending more and more time alone, staring at the same four walls. Her mental health began to deteriorate, and she found it hard to shake off the feeling of loneliness. She missed the little things, like running into an old friend at the grocery store or grabbing a coffee with a colleague.
As the lockdowns continued, Sarah couldn’t help but feel like she was missing out on life. She watched as the world outside her window went on without her, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was stuck in a never-ending purgatory. But as the vaccines started to roll out and the restrictions began to ease, Sarah slowly started to see a light at the end of the tunnel. She made plans to meet up with her friends and family, and even started looking for a new job. The isolation had been hard, but it had also taught her to appreciate the little things in life. She vowed to never take the people she loved for granted again, and to make the most out of every moment she had.
